The Parco Natura Viva sits in Bussolengo, on a piece of land that is approximately 40 hectares. The Park began operating in 1969. There are more than 250 species of wild animals with about 1500 specimens. Approximately 40,000 school-going kids, in high school or younger, visit Parco Natura Viva every year. Also, nearly 500,000 individual visitors go to this park yearly.
There are two main sections in this park. There is the Safari Park where visitors remain in their vehicles, and Fauna Park that only allows pedestrians inside. The primary activity in Parco Natura Viva is breeding species of wild animals and managing institutions dealing in zoology in Europe.
The Rio Conference held in 1992 stressed on the need and benefit of having a modern zoo. The aim of this conference was to protect biodiversity. The world has its eyes on this park. A modern-day zoo should have contact with both national and local firms. It should also maintain good working relationships with international organizations so that, together, they can manage the animal population. Doing so helps to prevent inter-breeding while focusing on the re-introduction of species that are at risk of extinction.
On 26th May 2011, the park received a garden license in zoology from the Ministry of Environment. T Being a modern-day European zoo, Parco Natura Viva has more to offer its visitors than just seeing animals. Modern zoos in Europe have an aim to preserve exotic and native species. Such zoos also see to it that wild species do not go extinct. They also ensure that caged animals are, and continue to survive, in good health. Modern-day zoos are useful for their involvement in breeding projects, preserving programs and re-sheltering programs.
Different species need varying husbandry guidelines. These guidelines show what is required for husbandry, management, minimum housing, diet and all other crucial features of the zoo. It is important to note that current zoos evolve from the old ones. Thus, renovating it is critical to give animals a living environment that resembles their natural surroundings. Zoos will continue to develop with time. Some of the things affecting the rate and nature of change of the zoos are:
• People's attitude towards cooperation between different zoos
• What people think of animal welfares
• Goals and objectives of a zoo
Over the past few years the Parco Natura Viva has been gradually replacing animal houses with the aim of totally rebuilding the zoo without skipping any stage. The park has significantly improved its facilities. This makes the park usable, accessible and ultimate fulfillment and enjoyment of its visitors. Additionally, the park continues to champion the value of conservation and protection of the biodiversity. Its continued care and protection of endangered animal species is a great achievement. That's why it has gained international recognition and many visitors.
